Chapter 2

After picking up Tenten’s laundry, scrubbing all the bathrooms in the house, feeding the birds, washing the laundry, cleaning Ino’s room, making lunch, mowing the grass, weeding the garden and any other inhumane chores Tsuande had conjured up for her, Sakura was free to do what she pleased as long as it was in her room. With tired limbs, Sakura staggered to her room in the far tower of the house.

For hours, Sakura had no idea what to do with herself, so she settled on looking at old photos. She spread her colossal collection out on the floor, carefully putting them in order from her earliest memories to her mother’s death. With a sigh she looked each one over carefully and remembered each of their stories perfectly. At around 8:00 that night, Sakura heard a knock on her window and snapped out of her daze. A blond haired boy sat eagerly on her window sill, a broad grin stretched out across his entire face.

“Sakura-chan!” Naruto cried excitedly, wrapping her small body into a bear hug.

“Hey Naruto, what’s up?” Sakura released her self from the hug and waited for an answer.

“Uh, well, you see, I… I was wondering if you wanted to join me for lunch in the town square, get some pork ramen or something…” Sakura smiled, leave it to Naruto to ask her out on a date.

“I’m sorry Naruto, but I’m swamped here, maybe some other time.” Sakura said, declining his offer politely.

“Well, tats’ okay, I guess, let’s just take a walk around your garden then, you look like you need it.” Sakura nodded. Naruto helped her down until her feet gently touched the soft grass. Sakura closed her eyes and inhaled a deep breath. I smelled like…her mother. A pain formed in her chest and she tried to clear her head off all thoughts. ‘Just focus your thoughts on the night sky, look there’s the big dipper...’ Inner Sakura instructed.

“Its so nice out, isn’t it?” Sakura asked Naruto quietly. He nodded quickly.

“These nights remind me of you, to tell you the truth…” Sakura smiled, he knew just how to cheer her up, “so peaceful and beautiful.”

Sakura blushed, she was thankful for the darkness that now enveloped them.

“Stop it Naruto,” she chuckled, playfully hitting his arm. He pretended to flinch and cry in pain. As midnight drew closer the friends said their goodbye’s and Sakura went back to her room. After her head hit the pillow she was out. The only thing awake was a little flame dancing on the candle next to her bed. ‘It smells like mother…’


“SAKURA! GET YOUR LAZY BUTT OUT OFF BED AND GET ME BREAKFAST!” Ino screamed at her stepsister’s door. Sakura carelessly rolled out of bed, knocking over her water. ‘Crap, now I’m all wet.’

“Coming Ino!” Sakura silently cursed her stepsisters under her breath. In the kitchen, Sakura got Tenten’s cereal and Ino’s waffle when there was a knock at the door.

“SAKURA!” Her step sisters screamed at the same time.

“I’m getting it!” Sakura mumbled. Just her luck, it was Rock Lee, a bushy browed man with an ugly green jump suit.

“Good morning fair Sakura, how are you today? You look as youthful as ever!” He winked at her while handing her the mail.

“Thank you Lee…” Sakura said, forcing a crooked smile. She quickly shut the door in his face before he had a chance to ask her out. Sakura returned her chores and silently cried to herself out of self pity. ‘God help me. My deranged step sisters are driving me crazy! Give my mom back God, or when I get up there I’m going to kick some ass!’ Inner Sakura screamed.

“Sakura, stop moping and get back to work, I need you to go to the market and pick up a few things.” Tsunade handed Sakura a grocery list. “Get going now, oh and put on more suitable clothes, we need people to think you’re the brat that you really are.” Sakura looked at the mile long shopping list.

“Yes step-mother.”

‘How can they bear wearing corsets? I can hardly breathe!’  Sakura staggered through the gates of the town square looking for the closest market. ‘Hmm… looks like bread is first on the list…’  

She made her rounds; picking up everything she could carry when she walked passed a deserted ally in the back of town. In the ally she saw Prince Sasuke and what appeared to be his friends talking to an old man. Her heart beat sped up and she could feel the heat rising on her cheeks. He spotted her after a moment and waved. She smiled sweetly, keeping her eyes down and kept moving forward. As she turned the corner, she felt a hand grasp her forearm.

“Sakura, it’s so good to see you again, you’ve changed so much in 2 years.” Sakura turned to face him.

“You have to.” He smirked, ‘not chatty today, Sakura?’

“How about some lunch? You will allow me to buy you lunch, won’t you?”

“Sasuke-kun, I really need to get home, if I’m late my step-mother will have a fit! I’m sorry but-”

“But nothing, 10 minutes Sakura-chan, give me at least 10 minutes? Tell your step-mother an annoying man wouldn’t let you go home if you’re late.”  Sakura chuckled.

“Fine, you have 10 minutes.”

“Fine, you strike a hard bargain Miss Sakura.” Sasuke escorted her to a fancy restaurant on the out skirts of town. They shared a quick bite of pasta, and Sakura parted, already 15 minutes late.

“Thank you Sasuke-kun, that was fun.” She gushed, giving him a quick peck on his cheek.
“See ya’ later!” Sasuke gazed after her, in a daze.

At home Sakura put away the groceries quickly and started on her chores. Humming to herself she got on her hands and knees and diligently scrubbed the ball room floors in her house.
“Sparkling Angel, I believe…You were my savior in my time of need. Blinded by faith, I couldn’t hear, all of the whispers the warnings so clear. I see the angels, I’ll lead them to your door…there’s no escape now, no worries no more…”  Sakura sang to herself quietly, “no remorse cause’ I still remember…”

“SAKURA, WHERE IS MY LAUNDRY???”

“The smile when you tore me apart…It’s in your closet Ino!!! You took my heart, deceived me right from the start…You showed me dreams, I wished they’d turn into real…”
“SAKURA WHERE ARE MY PEARLS?!”

“They are in your jewelry case that you kicked under your bed this morning.”

“…”

“You broke a promise and made me realize…It was all just a lie…Sparkling angle I couldn’t see your dark intentions, your feelings for me…Fallen angle tell me why, what is the reason, the thorn in your eye? I see the angles, I’ll lead them to your door…there’s no escape now, no mercy no more…”

“Sakura!! Where’s my ribbon set??”

“On top of your dresser next to your diamonds…no remorse cause’ I still remember…the smile when you tore me apart. You took my heart, deceived me right from the start. You told me dreams; I wished they’d turn into real. You broke a promise and made me realize it was all just a lie. Could have been forever, now we have reached the end. This world may have failed you; it doesn't give you a reason why. You could have chosen a different path in life. The smile when you tore me apart. Tsunade came into the room and ran her finger across part of the floor. She brought her hand up, rubbing her thumb and fore finger together.

“Sakura, keep scrubbing, this place is filthy…”

“Yes ma’am” Sakura obliged, “Oh and stepmother…”

“Yes Sakura?”

“I forgot to get the milk when I was in town earlier today, should I go back to town after finishing up the floor?”

“Yes, you nitwit, how could you have forgotten milk?” Tsunade put a hand to her head. “Oi…”

Sakura sighed and set out for town, taking her time through the woods. In town she went to the nearest grocer, bought the milk and slowly made her way through town square as rain began to spill out of the clouds.

All the townsfolk quickly sought shelter. Sakura strolled up to the fountain in the center of the city and collapsed into the stone frame work, her sadness washed away by the rain.
